The property sits on the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the longest mountain chain on earth. They stretch from Glorieta Pass, NM in the south to Poncha Pass, CO in the north. There are 10 peaks over 14,000 feet in height. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails and some of the best rock climbing, skiing, and whitewater rafting. They are home to the Trinchera elk herd which is the largest in the world. There are fly fishing Gold Medal waters and seven major ski areas. To the north of the property legendary Pikes Peak peaks out between two mountains. At the summit of Pikes Peak, Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to pen the lines to her most famous poem, "America the Beautiful." Canon City: Twenty minutes away is Canon City, a charming Colorado town that is home of the Royal Gorge Bridge. This unique community attracts tourists from around the world. Canon City is sheltered in a beautiful valley, in the "banana belt" of Colorado, featuring mild and hospitable climate year around. Canon City has a great school system, hospital, and all the amenities of a much larger urban area.
Colorado Springs and Pueblo: Both of these cities are within an 60 miles and both represent the best of Colorado. Colorado Springs is a booming metropolis which is the home of the United States Air Force Academy, NORAD, and many major businesses. Pueblo Colorado, with it's Spanish flair, is also experiencing the Colorado front range growth.
Cripple Creek: Just 45 miles away is the National Park Service recognized National Historic District that draws tourists from around the world. Founded during the 1880's gold rush with the Cripple Creek area still has active gold mining. It is one of three Colorado cities to have limited-stakes gambling. Poker, blackjack and slot machines abound in the city's casinos. Historic hotels, restaurants and shops accommodate those who want to spend time taking in the scenery, feed the donkeys and feel the excitement of gambling.
Ski Resorts: For ski buffs, the property is 1½ hours from Monarch Ski Resort, and Aspen and Breckenridge world class resorts.
Arkansas River: 3 miles away, has world famous whitewater river rafting and trophy fishing.
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park: 5 miles away, this is home to the highest suspension bridge in America, the Royal Gorge area has many tourist attractions, including train rides, inclines, and a suspension cable car.
San Isabel National Forest: The San Isabel forest, one of the state's 11 national forests, covers more than 1.2 million acres and contains the state's highest peak. The forest offers numerous recreation opportunities, including horse riding, hiking, fishing, mountain climbing and camping.
Great Sand Dunes National Monument: Two hours to the southwest is this national monument featuring the largest and highest dunes in North America.
